Researchers from the University of Athens Medical School recently examined how vitamin D supplements might improve health outcomes among obese and overweight children. They found that children who need to lose weight could benefit from regular vitamin D supplements, and supplementation could also reduce risk factors for future metabolic and heart diseases.
The study reported that compared to a control group, children who received vitamin D supplements had significantly lower body fat and body mass index. Improved cholesterol levels were also noted after 12 months of taking the vitamin D supplements.
These findings were presented at the annual European Society for Pediatric Endocrinology meeting on September 27, 2018.
