A new study has shown that organic-farmed meat and dairy are better for your health than consuming non-organic produce. This is because organic foods contain about 50% more omega-3 fatty acids than non-organic options. An international team of researchers conducted nearly 200 studies on milk and 67 on meat, finding that the benefits can be extended to organic milk products like cheese, yogurt, and butter.
In the largest study of its kind, researchers found that organic milk contains 40% more conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) than non-organic milk. CLA is linked to reduced heart disease risk as well as reductions in obesity and certain cancers. It also has higher concentrations of Vitamin E and iron, making it a healthier alternative than non-organic dairy.
These findings were published in the British Journal of Nutrition on February 15, 2016.
