Results from a physician survey indicate that many providers are dissatisfied with the current maintenance of certification (MOC) program. Over 9,200 doctors responded to a survey, and a wide majority expressed interest in future MOC program changes. An analysis and sample of 360 responses found several other significant findings:
- 76% of doctors were interested in access to online materials during assessments
- 76% of doctors were interested in board certification that indicates they are staying up-to-date in practice knowledge
- 80% responded positively to the option of taking a test-out assessment
The American Board of Internal Medicine is currently considering these physician recommendations to find ways to update the MOC assessment process.
These findings were published by the American Board of Internal Medicine in April 2016.
