The Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension , the DASH diet is now thought to produce the greatest decline in blood pressure of all dietary interventions. This finding was determined after researchers performed a review and analysis of 24 trials that used nearly 23,900 participants. The goal was to measure the effects of dietary interventions on blood pressures and to find out whether the effectiveness changed among different diets.
The result found that the DASH diet could be better at reducing blood pressure than the low-calorie, Mediterranean, low-sodium, and other diets. People with pre-existing hypertension also experienced more significant net reductions in blood pressure when compared to participants with normal blood pressure.
These findings were published in Hypertension on February 22, 2016.
