Researchers at Loughborough University in the UK recently found a significant relationship between metabolic dysfunction and cytomegalovirus in adults without obesity. The team analyzed data from approximately 9,500 adults to determine these links. About half of the participants had a positive cytomegalovirus (CMV) test, and after adjusting for sex and age, cytomegalovirus CMV was associated with metabolism.
The study did not find a link between cytomegalovirus CMV and BMI. The researchers have also noted that the association between metabolic dysfunction and cytomegalovirus CMV in non-obese adults was weak. While the findings are something to consider, they do not justify universal cytomegalovirus CMV screenings as a way to prevent diabetes.
These findings were published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism on February 10, 2016.
