Low-Intensity Exercise Can Improve Senior Heart Health

A study completed at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam recently found that any amount of physical activity may reduce seniors’ risk of cardiovascular disease.

Researchers examined 18-year data from more than 24,000 older adults, ages 39-79. They found a link between reduced heart disease risk and physical activity. Specifically, elderly people who were found to be moderately inactive had a 14% reduced risk of cardiovascular events compared to people who were completely inactive.

Senior citizens should be encouraged to do low-intensity physical exercises in order to get these benefits. These include housework, gardening, and walking. The important thing is to avoid being completely sedentary.
